The Guadalupe-Blanco River Trust, Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the U.S. Geological Survey are partnering to launch the Guadalupe River Basin Monitoring Network. The kick off meeting will be held on:

Monday, December 1, 2008 at 2 pm
at the
Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) River Annex
933 E Court St.
Seguin, Texas 78155

The Guadalupe River Basin Monitoring Network will be a system of water quality monitors in streams and rivers in the Guadalupe River Basin that collect data at regular intervals, some as often as every 15 minutes. This data will be used for flood-control planning, water quality regulation, and to allow the TCEQ and the partners in the system to detect water quality events in near-real time. Accessing such data allows agencies to take immediate action to remediate problems, thereby minimizing the impact to the environment and people of the area. The Network will be accessible over the Internet as will the data that the network collects.

The kickoff meeting will feature opening remarks by Chairman Buddy Garcia, of the TCEQ. In addition, Bob Joseph, Director of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Texas Water Science Center and Bill West, General Manager of the GBRA will be participating in the event. There will also be a presentation on the Guadalupe River Basin Monitoring Network and information on how industries, schools and other organizations, as well as individuals, can participate in this effort throughout the entire Guadalupe River Basin.

If you will be attending please RSVP to Liz Sedlacek at (830) 379-5822 or lsedlacek@gbra.org. We look forward to seeing you at this milestone event for the protection and conservation of the Guadalupe River and its tributaries.
